Jenny studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with a BA(Hons) in 1986.

Since then she has been a professional artist with regular solo and group exhibitions around the UK and abroad. In 2007 and 2015 she was awarded prizes at the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS), London and in 2016 and 2022 she was nominated for the ‘Fabriano International Watercolour Prize’ in Italy.

She also exhibits regularly at the RSW (Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour). In 2017 she was Artist in Residence at the Museo della Carta e della Filigrana in Fabriano, Italy and for the last 5 years has led the Scottish group to the international watercolour convention in Italy, ‘FabrianoinAcquarello’ and she is Scottish country leader for the InArte Watercolour Platform. In 2021 her painting in BudapestinAcquarello, Hungary, won the ‘visitors’ choice’.

In 2022 she became an elected member of the RSW (Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour) and she is also a Council member. She teaches occasional workshops in various locations and a regular floral watercolour class at the Edinburgh Drawing School, Great King Street in Edinburgh.

Her work is in numerous private and corporate collections worldwide including Adam and Co., Edinburgh, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, London, author Ian Rankin and Paintings in Hospitals, Scotland.

Dame Elizabeth Blackadder DBE was her tutor at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh as part of her degree course.

From her she developed a love of watercolour, flowers and plants which has subsequently been the mainstay of her career as an artist. The versatility of watercolour lends itself particularly to the depiction of flowers. The quantity of water is key to watercolour painting: she likes to play with the balance between detailed work and the abstract effects of too much water….and lots of colour. As well as botanical subjects, she also paint cityscapes, landscapes and portraits.
